World Water Day 2024

Water is one of the most important relationships we hold. Water nourishes and sustains us, the land, and all living things. Since time immemorial, the syilx people have recognized and honored the water, often representing it and syilx cultural values through food chief, nt̓yt̓yi̓x, and sacred spirit of the lake, n’x̌ax̌aitkʷ.

One of the many teachings of nt̓yt̓yi̓x is that of sustainability and ensuring that the water is just as, if not more, clean and nourishing for the next several generations as it is for us.

n’x̌ax̌aitkʷ is a constant reminder to be mindful of our place and the waves we create - what happens upstream affects those downstream.

To learn about Okanagan waterscapes, sustainability practices, and the importance of water, come and check out limited time exhibit: Waterways (developed by UBC, the En’owkin Centre, and the Okanagan Heritage Museum!)
