siya?

June 4, 2018

28 years! In June our community and families came together to celebrate siya?, also known as Saskatoon Berry, one of our four food chiefs, and to celebrate the harvest of the berry itself. To the Okanagan people, siya? not only represents the food, but is directly tied with women, children, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters. For the past 2 years sncewips has taken the responsibility of planning and bringing the communities together. This years events included traditional dancing, singing, distributing of siya? berries, and a performance by Cori Derickson. The siya? also welcomes local community vendors to sell their merchandise to those that attend.
